Setting timing after removing the mechanical fuel pump on a 20r

So I had trouble setting the timing on my 20r with an electric fuel pump and the mechanical pump removed… apparently the distributor moves in too far to get the disty to be properly set.. apparently there’s a work around where you can put a thrust washer on the disty and get the 20r timing properly set… does anyone have a write up on this or am I left in the dark with this information in my head.

Did you remove the fuel pump eccentric drive from below the distributor drive gear? That or a washer of equivalent thickness (like from the 22RE's) needs to be there. You can leave it in place with the fuel pump removed.
