92 3vze 3.0 intermittent power cutting out issue

Hi All,

I’ve got an intermittent issue with loss of power/surging. When the problem kicks in, it idles fine. Once rpm passes about 1500 it cuts out and drops back down. Changed fuel pump, MAF, distributor cap, plugs and wires. No cracks in intake plenum, vacuum hoses all look ok with no visible leaks.

Tired of throwing parts at it.. have read through numerous threads on here but can’t land on the right one.

I scanned code 14 before but it hasn’t come back since I’ve cleared it. It died only a couple times while driving with the chugging issue and CEL light would come on just before dying. But for the most part CEL won’t come on while it’s happening. If I stop and let it idle for 5 mins problem usually goes away but comes back within a few km of driving.

any thoughts ?

Sounds like air but you said no leaks. Have you tried spraying carb cleaner around the plenum or the intake hose while running? Air leaks can be really hard to find. May also be worth testing the gaps in the distributor and checking the coil. Igniter is tough to diagnose but will usually throw a code if it is having issue.
