[86 22RE] Would anyone please kindly tell me if my engine sounds normal?

I took a video of a cold start of my 22re. As you can see it idles at ~1000, and then will gradually drop to ~750 as it warms up. Some fair fuel smell on startup but that goes away too.

My reason for posting is I am planning on getting it smogged soon (which is expensive since it is an RV), but I had a shop tell me it sounds like ˟˟˟˟/is misfiring. I haven't had any CEL. I've done a tune up with the sparks/wires and the pcv valve. The EGR works (I tested it), and to me it sounds like it's running fine. I just wanted to hear another input before I spend $$$ smogging it. Thanks for the help!

It's suppose to rev higher then drop down after a bit of warming. Same with the wiff of fuel - that's just the automatic "choke" (cold start injector). At least mine does that. And it sounds a lot less clackity-clackity then my 93 22RE. When you pulled the plugs did you observe anything other then a nice tanning?

Here in Oregon, if you fail the DEQ smog check, you don't pay until you pass the check. Why do you say "before I spend $$$ smogging it"?

Thanks Jim,

The plugs look fine to me, maybe a little bit tanned. It is reassuring to hear that the tapping is relatively normal.

Unfortunately here in California the smog test costs fall onto the consumer, meaning I will have to pay for as many tests as it takes to pass.

Using my computer speakers, the engine sounds fine, and wasn't misfiring that I could tell.

Thanks for the reply! as an updated I took it to a smog shop yesterday and it passed with flying colors!

The place I took it to a week prior forgot to record my reservation so they came up with a bunch of nonsense about misfiring to save face. I'm really annoyed as it worried me enough to make this thread.

Thanks everyone!
