So I bought an 88 pickup with the 22re in it. But upon further inspection and some help from the community. My block turns out to be a 22r (81-84) I believe bcuz it doesn’t have the laser block. All the efi system is hooked up and works. But I have to tap and dye one of the holes for a knock sensor bcuz it doesn’t have one. So I’m trying to figure out which year my block is and my head. My valve cover says 22re on it and someone mentioned it looks like an 84 cover or older. I was maybe wondering if they put an 83-84 22re head and cover on the block for Efi system to match? Just a theory? Bcuz I think you can’t put 85+ stuff on the pre 85 motors. So I wondering maybe if the block and head etc are from 83-84, but they swapped over head and covers etc from a 22re? Anyone help would be great and thanks in advance.
