resurfaced head rocking on block?

I just had a head resurfaced on a 81 22r and it still rocks on the block. Is that normal if not is there a cheap fix? Or do i just need to torque it down? this was free truck and i have almost no money , so any ideas would be great.

check to make sure the dowel pins on the block are seated properly and in good condition. How much of the head surface was taken off?

Try to lay a flat edge across the head deck, corner to corner. There shouldn't be any daylight between the edge and the head surface. Do the same for the block, make sure the surface is clean.

well one thing if you don't know how much was taken off, better find out, because you can only take so much off the head before there is clearence problems. Especially the earlier block 22r's like you have. Piston to head clearence comes to mind. I am not sure how much area there is between the bottom of the head and the piston tops on then, but on the later models there isn't much at all.

If your unsure about the dowel pins it's best to just order new ones from the dealership. If they are marred in anyway from like a vice grip which is what is usually required to get them out of the block then they are probably toast.

Part number for those 2 pins is PIN, STRAIGHT (FOR CYLINDER HEAD SET) 90250-08120 Should not be any more then a buck or two a piece.
