2001 3.4L low idle, sputter and die

So my son gassed up his 2001 4runner and went to work. He came out after his shift and when he tried to start his truck, it idled low and rough, and died when he touched the throttle. It will fire but idle so poorly it just (500rpm) sputters and stalls. It's not throwing any codes which is really got me scratching my head. I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the MAF because it was quick and easy. Still no change with symptoms... any suggestions?

I had exact thing happened on my 1999 4Runner last month. I cleaned/replaced MAF, TPS, fuel filter, FPR etc to no avail. I then had it towed to the dealership to have them figure it out the problem. A day later, I got a call that the culprit was a dying fuel pump (original at 157k miles), dirty suction filter and gas. They thoroughly cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel pump, suction filter and fuel sending unit (didn’t get the TSB fix back in the day) and has been running without any problems since then.

I decided to have the dealer do the work because it requires dropping the tank and my eye surgery prevented me from doing it myself. It was worth the money I paid for though😇.
