The lock cylinder I ordered online did not fit.
I have a 1998 4Runner with a tilt-steering wheel.
I received a 69057-35070 but I could not insert it into the cylinder housing.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
Attached is a picture which is self-explanatory.
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION: Maybe a lock cylinder for a 1989 - 1995 would fit?
POSSIBLE SUBSTITUTIONS: I am looking at an Evan-Fischer EVA2558311581 and a Dorman 924-786 but the problem with ordering either of these online is that the available pictures do not reveal the actual zero angle view I need to judge them as acceptable.
Look at the attached picture and you'll see what I mean. The protrusions, marked in red, make the 69057-35070 incompatible.
I'm not sure why a 89-95 would fit, but I guess it's up to you if you want to experiment.
The only thing I saw, looking at Toyota parts, is that 69057-35070 always says "non-tilt wheel", but I never saw a part for tilt wheel...
Do you have a dealership close? Are they good people? My "local" dealership has always had a good parts department, and I've been able to go in and compare parts, have them help me trouble shoot and give me their best guess on whether parts that aren't exact matches might still fit. I had to buy new handle/lock hardware for my 98, which had power doors. It was a $400 part, but the non-power lock was only something like $150, and they guys there looked close at both parts and thought they'd probably fit, and told me we could look close when the part showed up, and if it didn't look right we could just return it. Anyway worth looking into.

Very few suppliers index their parts by VIN number. If they did this then my problem could have been avoided. Toyota does is but, unfortunately, their cost for this part is $190. Attached is a picture the Toyota Parts Department Manager sent to me of THEIR version of a 69057-35070.
I had no idea that a substantial difference could be whether or not the steering wheel is tilted. I need no explanation, I just find this filter absent on OEM suppliers.
I DID contact a local Toyota dealer, the Parts department, who pledged helping me by ordering the part for physical comparison. This will happen in a few days.

I get it with the price for OEM. In almost every case it's well worth paying that extra price, but I'll admit upfront that when I replaced my door locks, I went OEM, but with the ignition cylinder I went aftermarket.
