93 22re starts with starting fluid

9322re ran when I bought it a year ago, been sitting. Needs new gas tank, I have it and a new pump, filter, relay. Hooked up a 1gallon temp fuel tank/12v pump to the fuel line to engine. It starts and runs for a bit on starting fluid, then dies. I'm just trying to move it to a better location on my property to work on it. I don't think it's a fuel pressure issue. Something dumb I'm sure. Please advise, thank you

Starting fluid bypasses the fuel injectors. Are your fuel injectors clean?

With this temporary tank and pump, if the injectors don't have enough pressure behind them they won't spray corectly or at all so if you are using a cheap 12v pump for a carburetor, it won't have enough pressure

The injectors are good. Sounds like it is a fuel pressure issue, I was just trying to take the shortest path to moving it

how do you know that? right now, your truck is only running on starting fluid, presumably sprayed into the upper plenum. this air/starting fluid mixture gets pulled into the cylinders and is ignited by the spark plugs. your injectors might not be doing a thing, unless you've tested them, or can hear them (which is very possible and easy, once you know what to listen for).

  • I've replaced the injectors, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter. Will start and run good as long as I'm spraying starting fluid in it, then dies. Even replaced the ECU. It's got good spark, good fuel pressure. Way to much money in it trying to get it running, can't stop now. It's a 86 Toyota Sunraider 22RE. I could really use some help, getting very frustrated. Lots of hours in and under it.

same as for the OP. just because you threw new injectors into it doesn't mean they are doing anything. the fact that it only runs on starting fluid is an indication that the injectors, even if brand new, are not doing anything. test the injector circuit/function. or keep throwing more parts at it.
