I am in the middle of changing my transfer case fluid and I ran into a snag that I'm not sure how to proceed with.... The consensus online seems to be that the auto trans tcase should be filled with ATF, but when I went to drain this yesterday gear oil came out.
I guess my question is, should I just fill this back up with fresh gear oil, or ATF? If ATF is the proper fluid, do I need to disassemble the whole tcase and clean it out before adding ATF? Here's some pictures if that helps identify which tcase I have:
