1988 SR5 aftermarket head unit problems.

I just bought an 88’ 4Runner and the radio was working great until for the 2 days I used it. I was trying to tidy the interior up and I seem to have messed up the head unit. I removed the faceplate when I put it back on the radio wouldn’t power on. I checked all the wires, fuses, contacts, but it still won’t power on. I am at my whits end, any help is appreciated.

Welcome to YotaTech.

The stock 4Runner didn't have a radio with a removable faceplate, so you may not have much luck here. But maybe someone has the same style replacement and knows a lot about it. To get anywhere, you'd have to provide the make/model of the "head unit", and probably some photos.

How did you check? Need to start with knowing IF you have power. There are 2 power lines to the radio.
1) Constant power from battery (thru hazard =horn fuse) to maintain memory. Blue with yellow stripe.
2) Power that's on only when Accessory position is on, For 1988 that's GR (Grey) wire.

If you have power to the unit from the harness I would go with a head unit issue, try to clean the contacts with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, check that no dust or crap is stuck on the pins that connect the face to the unit….
