I was thinking about this and searched the 84-85 forum and didn't come up with anything. Not just a few things but, nothing. I thought there'd be some sort of discussion here about it. What do people here know or have heard about it? I found a thread on Pirate that sang it's tune. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with it, good or bad.

 

I have never heard of Pertronix.

What were you hoping to get out of these parts?

Is your engine stock or heavily modified?

 

Pertronix is very widely used in the muscle car hobby to replace points with an electronic ignition module. It still looks original. I’ve been running one in my 67 Camaro for probably 15 years and It’s been perfect. I don’t know what they offer for Toyota but I wouldn’t hesitate to use them.

 

Really, I'd like to get rid of the points. When it comes to the dizzy, I thing the fewer moving parts, the better. Engine is stock, except for a 32/36 on top.

 

Yah, they're big in the older vehicle market. That's why I'm surprised I've found so few talking about them in these 22R's. There are enough of these little Toyotas running around, I find it hard to believe almost no one is running Pertronix. Below is their Toyota 4Cyl product. Doesn't seem like you could go wrong with it.

I am pretty sure your 22R should already have electronic ignition, not points.

They came with electronic ignition from the factory.

 

right, so in this case the pertronix module may just replace the factory pickup module.

 

Got it. Makes sense that no one would be be converting to Pertonix because there aren't points to begin with. I'm learning something everyday with this thing.
