I just purchased this 89 sr5 4runner with the 3.0. It was too good a deal to pass up. Wanted to get it running and just flip it for some profit. Well I got it running and it's got a loud knock/tick noise. I just wanted to get some opinions. This sounds like a lifter to me. But a few buddies think it's a rod. the knocking you are dealing with is significantly louder than anything i'm hearing on my 3vze, but not totally dissimilar. you can check my few posts to see and hear my 3vze tick noise for comparison.

i suppose it's important now to investigate where it is coming from to continue troubleshooting. let me know how things go if you get to stick a screwdriver or stethoscope and listen. cheers
