Engine idling but won't stay running!

My engine fires up every time, but after about 10 to 15 seconds, it sputters out. Once off, I can fire it right back up again, and it'll again sputters out. It's an 86 4Runner, 22RE. I tested the fuel pump (12V) and I jumped it and it's putting fuel to the engine. During these 10 to 15 seconds of it running, I run to the pump, and using my stethoscope, I check to see if the pump is running...and it's not.

With that said; should the fuel pump be on constantly when the engine is running, or does it turn off and then pump again (intermittently)? Could it be related to the AFM? I'm sort of new to the AFM system.

Has anybody experienced this?

Your truck runs a few seconds and then quits? Gee, wouldn't it be great if there was a search function on this site that would let you look for a discussion of that issue?

Your truck ('86) has the FP jumper, but it looks a little different than mine: https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTr...shtml#FuelPump

As Scope pointed out, youre not the first person with this problem.

Air
Fuel
Spark
Its process of of elimination

We're all happy to help but you got to do some testing to narrow it down so we can give pointers.
