4 runner dies out of nowhere when driving

89 4 runner dies after driving a few miles. Won't start again out has set for around 15 hours. Cranks after that , idles fine . I let it run for 5hours straight purred like a kitten the whole time. Died after driving it for 20 miles let it sit over night and it fired right up... Why does it die after being driven

I would start with checking fuel pressure. Both cold and hot

Does it miss, sputter, or just DIE?
what's the weather like where you are?
dies while driving or when your stopped?
Cranks but won't start after?
Will it start with starter fluid after it dies?

I agree, had a similar intermittent problem for a couple of years...
bought a new after market pressure regulator... same problem. Bought an OEM pressure regulator and fixed it.
the reason I asked about weather... had issues with mine running like crap when there was moisture/ humidity in the air...
It was the distributor.... VERY VERY sensitive to moisture.
