Don’t do what I did removing plenum

I’ll get some grief for this dumb mistake, but there will likely be others who do this as well. My truck is a 95 4runner 3.0. When removing the plenum....disconnect the fuel line at the cold start injector. I lifted the plenum up and wire tied it to the hood to change a bad injector on cylinder 3. I left the fuel line connected because I didn’t have new crush washers for reconnecting. Bolted everything back up and had fuel spraying out of the fuel line going to the cold start injector. The fuel was spraying from underneath the fuel line sleeve, not at the connection. $120 dollars and another plenum removal later I’m running good and a little wiser. Looking at the now bad line you can’t tell where it got damaged, but it did.

Next time, instead of disconnecting the fuel line from the Cold Start injector, there is enough slack in the system to remove the injector from the plenum with the fuel line still connected. (remove the electrical connector) Then lift the plenum away with the CSI still connected to the fuel lines. There is a paper gasket between the CSI and plenum, but it's a low pressure connection so re-using the gasket is safe.

From your photo, it looks like the crush washers you now have are too large. If I recall correctly, the correct-size washer fits inside of a shoulder on the machined surface, so the outside diameter is important. (My notes say the outside diameter is 14mm, but the correct size should match the shoulder.)

Thanks for the tip scope103. I got the crush washers from the Toyota dealer...I'll check the part number again to make sure they're correct. Motor is running great with the new injector. Next project is a high idle....1200 rpms.
