Im trying to help my long time friend out by fixing his truck that isn't running and help him get it back on the road.
The truck is an 84 SR5 pickup.
Drivers side body was crumpled in decently and looking at it there is no good area to properly cut and weld the new parts in if we had them. His dad was able to find a cab that I believe is an 85 not positive that is 99% stripped.
Has anyone swapped one of these cabs or know of a well documented swap I can read about?
Looking at a smashed core support and maybe a little bit of inner fender support damage.
Is that the donor or the recipient?
The blue truck the the original truck that got damaged in the accident. My friends father has a full cab off an 86 sitting at his house. Im just wondering what is easier and more cost effective 1. for my friend to drop the undamaged cab off at a body shop to be painted and have windows/ misc put in and then me swap everything over since its a 99% stripped cab. Or 2. take this truck to the body shop with the undamaged cab and have them cut the core support and apron out of this truck and repair with the good cab.

Dosent the front clip unbolt at the firewall? I did a cab swap before (due to a roll) but I believe we unbolted the front clip which my friend took to repair his truck which met a tree moving 40 MPH.

You changed your story...you first said that your dad got a stripped down 85 Cab, now you say it's an 86 Cab.........YES there is a difference. 84 and 85 are the same 86-89 they made some changes, many were in the dash area but a lot were in the wiring.
The whole cab comes off with 6 bolts, 2 on each side and 2 in the front. You can change the whole cab, and then just swapping parts from the damaged truck. Check my ground up under 84 Here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f198...und-up-304199/
