2nd Gen Grille Swap to different Gen/Truck?

Hey Guys,

I have a 1995 Toyota 4 runner, see picture:

I do not like the headlights and grille. I prefer the square once from the 1990 4runner (see picture)

...or even better the 1985 front grille/headlights (see picture)

There also also multiple different grilles/headlights from hilux/trucks I like.
I was wondering which one of these can fit with minimal adjustments onto my 1995 4runner?

Anyone done a similar swap?
Thanks a bunch!

I just noticed I posted that under 84-85 trucks, instead of86-95 Trucks & 4Runners. Can someone please move this thread? Sorry!

You can fit a 1985 grille on with some slight trimming! Just remember to get the correct headlight shape.

That is GREAT NEWS! Couple questions about that.

So, I found this grille with headlight bezel at my local shop from a 1984 4Runner:

I also bought these 7x6 LED lights to fit in the bezel:

How would I go about attaching the new lights to my old bucket? Would I also need to grab the whole assembly from the 1984?
What minor "trimming" would I have to do?

Theres probobly a whole thread on how to install new headlights because some trucks are wired in a way you need an adapter.

Love the grille!
As for trimming, its just some stuff on the sides I think, not noticable at all. As long as you can get it in there, it's good.

I do have the adapter, but I was wondering for the actual trim/headlight bucket housing that holds the headlight in place.
Do I need to get the one from the 1985, because of the different shape, or will the 1995 housing work with the new grille/headlights?

Thanks!

So... you're going back 10 years on the grille and buckets... and forward 25 years on the lights? ;-)

Lol I can see why, the 2nd gen grille is by far my favourite, I'll probably swap one into my 94 if I ever find one

As a bonus, the ARB (one of the few plate bumpers for this era) looks like it was made for the '84-'88..

Haha. Never really thought about it. You think it would look "wrong/weird"?
I just want to get rid of the oval-shaped headlights on my 95, not many LEDs to choose from.
So with the new grille/buckets, I will be able to choose from a lot more headlights that I can now.

Head light and grille change? I have a 97 Toyota T100 and really want to switch over to the 7x6 square LED headlights and an older or newer grille that would accommodate this swap. Any suggestions out there for me as to what will fit? Any ideas are much appreciated, thanks in advance for your help. Also do not know why 93-95 T100 LED headlights and taillights would not fit my 97. All of the afore mentioned older models have had the same grille and lights, at least from what I have seen? One more question, what gen is the 93-98 T100 considered to be?

I do. But, and it's a big but... it just doesn't matter what I (or anyone else) thinks. Hell, I put 15" wheels and hubcaps on my truck while the rest of world wants 20s.

Maybe do the grille swap - that should look pretty badass - with "regular" headlights and stand back and look at it. Drive it for a while and see what you think. The regular lights are cheap, so you're not out much if you swap for the LED lights.

Yeah, I agree I am still debating, weather to try the swap or not. The actual size of them look fairly close to one another, but the clips don't look like they align at all.
Not even to mention if the actual bucket, where the light gets attached can be easily swapped. And yes, Id probably get the regular once and see how I like them!
Thanks

I think it'd be a cool mod. Subtle enough that only Toyota guys would think "Wait... what year is that?"

Headlights change.

I really like the 7x6 lights better than the factory lights and there are many different types of headlights available in the square LED style. I really like the new Halo style and the squared off grille look. I think that the T100 was a real precursor to the tundra of the era. Speaking of that does anyone know if the early tundra skid plates and sliders will fit the T100? I would really like to protect my truck from underside damage, not to mention the sand around my area. I baby my trucks through the woods and off-road areas. We have a lot of flatlanders that come to northern Michigan and tear the trails up pretty bad. Here and there they expose large boulders that could do some real damage. Preparation is the best defense is what I always say. Any feedback on the subject is GREATLY APPRECIATED. Any ideas out there for a model of grille and lights might be able to be adapted to my truck?

I have no idea and not done it before. Probably best you open a new thread to ask for your T100. Good luck!!

1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen 4runners all have slightly different shapped hoods so your grill swap is going to stand out abit to some of us.

Any updates by chance? I'd like to see what it looks like if you did do the grille swap.

T100 grille swap

I have not done the swap yet because of two reasons. The first is that I have a thread going on the site now detailing the TWD body swap on to my 97 4x4. The swap is an after completion of the transfer. The second reason is that I have not located the grille and headlights/buckets I need for the change. I will update more when I do get the parts for the swap. Considering building my own grille and buying new headlights and buckets. I don't really have a good parts place here in northern Michigan for Toyota parts. When they hit the salvage yard here, they're pretty much picked out. Not going to give up hope but it does look grim as far as locating the parts I need to do the grille swap. Keep watching though because I will post the progress.
