A buddy of mine gave a truck to me a few months ago.i have time now to work on the truck.when received the truck he told me that it was back firing at times thru the intake and times out the exhaust. So recently I re did the timing and it's not back firing any longer.issue I'm having is I tdc the timing and truck starts fine.i took it for a drive noticed its hesitating and stalls as I put pedal to the metal..then it slowly starts accelerating fast.. it even hesitates in neutral.. I have bought and change all the basics..I use super unleaded for gas. I also have put in a new catalytic converter and exhaust..could it be my distributor or another area of timing i didnt check..when I got the truck parts were missing..TPS set screw isnt there a few vacuum hoses I have replaced..need help..thanks

 

When adjusting the ignition timing, did you jump the E1 and TE1 terminals in the Diagnostic Connector to set base timing?
