Center-to-center bolt hole distance on 2nd gen 4Runner door panel armrest

I’ve done some searching but can’t turn up the answer... perhaps I haven’t hit the right combo of search terms. I’m trying to find out the distance between the armrest bolts the door panels on a 2nd gen 4Runner (or the truck). I’m interested if it’s the same as the 1st gen 4Runner. It appears that the distance on the 1st gen is 7-1/8”, as measured on my 87 SR5 with power windows. I’m planning to build new door panels and would like to use 2nd gen armrests if at all possible.

Does anyone know this dimension? Would anyone be willing to measure it and let me know? Thanks for any assistance.

Interesting idea, I'm curious about that too now that you've mentioned it. Flag down a second gen driver on the road and see if you can measure his arm rests?

If I had a 2nd generation 4Runner, I would gladly measure the armrest bolt hole distance for you, but I do not have one.

Maybe @scope103 or @dropzone has the arm rests on their trucks that they could measure.

Dang... so close. I may try to grab a 2nd gen armrest out of the pull-a-part and see if I can’t make it work somehow. I think I would find that preferable to the 1st gen armrest. More to come...

And thank you much for taking time to measure it for me!

Math!

Math says that's probably not an accurate measurement.. Remember these use metric numbers .

7.75 inches=
196.85 millimeters

I don't recall seeing any fractional measurements in the frame geometry.

The good news is, your Toyota body is made of metal. You can add/remove metal in a metal structure super easy.

.. Yeah not alot of "direct" help, sorry. There are probably some usable photos in my album from when I redid the interior in the 94, you can get some dimensions off of with a decent image program.

Interesting, thanks for measuring. Yeah it wouldn't be too hard to move the plastic grommet that the arm rest screws thread into.

The 88 4runner 1gens - if they are missing the vent window, have those fancy round looking armrests / door inside design.
I'm partial to the pre 88 armrests

Looks like we may have an answer from another thread that was started earlier today (8/16)... In “Identify Door Panels”, there is a picture of an 87 truck with the door panel from a 2nd gen 4Runner modified to fit the truck. When I say modified, he had to trim some of the panel at the sides, because the 2nd gen is a little longer of a door IIRC. The armrest from the 2nd gen 4Runner is there, so either it bolted right in or there was some modification on the door. Either way, I think I can make it work. Moreover than just swapping armrests, I’d really like to make a panel swap from a 2nd gen to my 1st gen. It’s definitely time to swing by the Pull A Part.
