1st gen pickup bumpstops
Hey folks,
I'm redoing all the suspension on a 1980 4x4 pickup. I have an order almost ready to go with low range offroad- dakars all round, new shackles and u bolts. My bumpstops are almost gone. I have one up front: its the oem design that is just glued onto a plate which is held in place by the ubolts. The glue has lasted 30 years which is impressive but a little poking with a screwdriver is the last battle that glue will ever fight at this point. The other front has no bumps and the back seems like they are metal on metal. Both front and back have bumpstop components that are held down by the u bolts. I am not doing ubolt flips.
Toyota still sells this design (for about 50$ per piece) but the price and effectiveness dont seem worth it.
So I'm looking at all the aftermarket options, mainly energy kits with bumpstops with one bolt in the bottom. I'm assuming I need to drill some holes to install these. If anyone has done this before and has advice, especially for the front on a stock straight axle, I'd appreciate hearing how you did it. Most info I'm finding is for later generations and ifs set ups.
Sorry I don't have any pics to post right now.
I decided not to post this in the pre-84 section because I've asked my quota of stupid questions over there so far this year and decided to give those guys a break.
