Manual trans only 2.5 quarts????

Manual trans only 2.5 quarts????
Just rebuilt my engine 1994 pickup, replace all clutch components while I was there and no went to refill trans and 3 quarts in the shifter and oil starts pouring out the fill hole? Haynes says it should have a 4.5 quart capacity.
I know I got all the old stuff out since I had that trans up on it's end and even double checked before filling.
Did Haynes get it wrong?

My 92 2wd pickup takes 2.5 quarts. Use Amsoil capacities because they are right at least for my truck. Amsoil says 5.1 pints which is 2.55 quarts.
For your 94 Amsoil manual trans capacity:
W55 (4WD) 4.6 pints From 6/94
W55 (4WD) 6.3 pints To 5/94
W55 (RWD) 5.1 pints To 5/94
W55 (RWD) 5.5 pints From 6/94

W55 (4WD) 4.6 pints From 6/94
W55 (4WD) 6.3 pints To 5/94
W55 (RWD) 5.1 pints To 5/94
W55 (RWD) 5.5 pints From 6/94
