1988 Extd Cab Pickup Question

Hey Everyone,

My first post as I just picked up an 88 4x4 pickup with the 3vze motor. This is really strange but the owner mentioned to me that he uses a switch that the original owner put in place. The switch works as follows

Switch on = The cars engine is cold or has been sitting more than 2 hours (If switch isnt on, the engine will just crank)

Switch off = If the Engine is warm and has been sitting less than two hours

I don't know if this was done as some type of preventive measure? I know its not anytype of fuel cut because you can still start it with the switch off. Anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Thats exactly what it is!

Do you happen to know anything about the operation of it? Like if I need to turn it off once the car has started?

It would depend on exactly how it's wired into a manual switch I would think. If it's a simple ON/OFF, and doesn't read a signal from the Cold Start Timer Switch, leaving it ON at all time could flood the engine possibly?

That makes sense.. I'd like to not have the switch but im guessing the old owner couldnt find a part and did this as a work around, thanks 5FISTS!
