I'm new here, so I'm not sure this is the right place to ask questions.

I have a 1988 4Runner with a 22re motor and it needs a new exhaust and O2 sensor. How difficult is it to replace the exhaust? Can I buy something like this from PartsGeek?

I'd buy it. Looks like it would fit from here.

From cat a slight up step about 2", a foot long maybe. Then the muffler. Its hangers are at the rear. Very close to the hangers is the axle. Also looking good. Exits correctly.

Bought a bunch of wrong pieces, I will buy that if you deem it good.

 

Are you looking at the Bosal exhaust / muffler assembly?

That would be what I would buy for a bolt up exhaust. I bought one for my1987 2WD truck (slightly different bends, but mostly the same) and I like it. The system fits well and was fairly easy to install. I didn't have rust to deal with on my truck, so installation went smoothly.

I am not sure how long the Bosal system will last, as I only installed mine about a year ago, but mine still looks pretty new.

 

Yes, I'm looking at the Bosal exhaust/muffler assembly. That's good news that it's working for you. It turns out that I'll also want the matching Bosal header pipe and new O2 sensor since the O2 sensor is what started all this. That and the noise. And the exhaust leak.

I'm assuming that everything that I haven't personally replaced on this truck is original and needs to be replaced. Actually, I think the exhaust behind the header pipe has been replaced, but was done very poorly by a bad welder. The O2 sensor appears to be a solid, fused piece of rust.

 

i got three years out of the bosal exhaust for my ‘87. the davis cat is still working, as is the walker downpipe. the bosal fit excellent, though.
