Rear Window Key Switch - Up But Not Down...
#1
84 4Runner - console switch will roll window up and down, rear key switch will roll window up, but not down. Anyone have experience with a quick fix before I start tracing wiring? I'm assuming it may be a bad ground since it'll roll up, and being that the roll up/roll down functions have their own independent wiring.

No quick fix, but should be simple.
No choice but to inspect/clean your tailgate key switch and wiring.
Need to nspect flex cable between tailgate and body. If you're lucky you would find the broken wire. However, it's possible to have broken wire hidden inside insulation so best to use a multi-meter. It will.come handy for as long as u own your classic.
Another approach is checking if the "down" input to control module is getting the GROUND signal.
You decide which part you're more comfortable doing first.
Pls see my rear window control post on my thread.
Also my signature.

RAD4Runner, thank you for your input! I've seen your responses in a few other threads where you provide some pictures and schematics, so i'll definitely be using those. Your signature is empty as of right now (3/27/19 0131 CST), and it looks like you edited it on the 24th. Not sure if its a bug in the system with my computer or if it didn't take your edit.
It seems as though it is the switch - I was removing the tint on the rear window today, and after rolling the window up and down a few hundred times, the switch began acting funny on the "up" side as well. Now there's a sweet spot I have to hold the key in while turning it left for the up function to engage. I began taking the switch out but ran out of daylight and time before I had to come to work. I'll remove the switch and clean everything tomorrow to see if its a switch issue. However, I think I'm going to go ahead and use your mods to install an external hidden switch for the rear window, in addition to relocating the console switches to the dash. Thank you again for your feedback!
