I'm trying to find help doing an HEI conversion on my 1980 Celica GT Liftback, because I can't find a replacement igniter ANYWHERE! (not even the $300 ones). I wired up the HEI as per numerous posts, and when I hit the key, all of the lights on the dash go out and it doesn't crank. I'm desperately trying to get this to work, as this car is my daily driver and I need to get to work. Any help AT ALL would be GREATLY appreciated...

 

Check you battery terminals & cables for corrosion or looseness, especially the ground cable. That's the usual cause of the "click & everything goes out"syndrome. Do the dash lights come back on when you let the key go from the start position back to run position?
