Are you rebuilding your engine or just freshening up the head and installing a new timing set? What are your plans for this engine? Are you keeping the engine stock, a mild build, or a major build?

Are you looking for a one-stop shopping site to buy all parts or are you wondering what brands of parts to use? Maybe both?

Toyota OEM parts are best, as well as purpose-made aftermarket parts. Stay away from the cheap eBay specials; you never know what you will get with those...

For parts brands:
  • Oil Pump: Aisin (Toyota OEM) [ you can buy this either from Toyota or from a vendor selling Aisin oil pumps]
  • Timing Chain set: OSK (Toyota OEM) [ you can buy this either from Toyota as individual parts and OEM plastic guides or from 22RE Performance with a metal backed, plastic surfaced, driver-side guide]
  • Head and cam: Well, you get what you pay for. Find a machine shop who knows 22R engines well or talk to the 22R-E specialists below. They will have sources for quality parts.

My go-to 22R and 22R-E engine machine shop is 22RE Performance out of Chico, California: https://22reperformance.com/. They only rebuild 22R and 22R-E engines and mostly do stock to mildly built engines. They put quality and reliability first, so they are more expensive than other sources. They use OEM Toyota parts as well as proven (custom) aftermarket parts where OEM parts are either no longer available or their aftermarket part improves on the OEM design. They do have a bit of a wait if you are wanting an assembled head. They also do high performance builds if that is what you are into.

LCE Performance is good too. https://www.lceperformance.com/. LCE specializes in high-horsepower engines.

If those options are too expensive or have too long of a wait, I would find a trusted machine shop in your area and see what they can do for you.
