Frame repair integrity question

94 pickup I picked up a few days ago has had a few repairs made to the frame. Most of them look pretty good except there is one patch that is a hack job (seems the previous owner didn't want to remove the bed and drop the gas tank). See pictures 1 and 2. Picture 1 shows the beginning of the patch and 2 shows the end (where there was no attempt to fuse the metal). Picture 3 shows the other area where reinforcement was added (the area that looks like a decent repair). Worth noting that the beginning and the end of the patch look like they are fused to the frame. The gap shown in the pictures is in the middle.

Anyways, could anyone tell me how much of a priority I should make to get this squared away? Not really sure how much the patch in question is really helping.

I was going to help my folks move in about 2 months and Im trying to figure out if I can tow a small trailer or not with this issue? Safe to drive as it is etc. The frame below, on top, and bottom seem solid. Just spent the last hour stabbing around with my knife and that is the most questionable spot.

I gotta ask where does the truck live ??

How long has it been since those repairs were done??

Can you do the welding and fabrication work ??

Paying to have this done could get real expensive

When Fixing these Frames I have angle bent I always get one vertical and horizontal side.

From your pictures it looks like poor prep work.

Take some pictures showing the area around the spring hanger showing as much of the frame as possible

Hard call to make from the pictures you posted

looks like you are in Wisconsin. From the amount of rust and the poor quality of the previously attempted frame repairs I don't think anyone can give you an honest frame assessment with out seeing truck in person

Truck lives in Wisconsin.

I was hoping to do the work myself. If I can remove the bed and tank I should be able to get to it to properly patch the bad spot. I was hoping to pick up some 1/8 steel - cut out doe ˟˟˟˟ panel and weld in a new one. I have a 110v mig machine that should be able to handle the job. At that time I think I will use the rust bullet paired with their metal blast to keep the rest of the frame preserved.

The repairs were done last winter I believe.

I'll try to get a more comprehensive shot/ video of the frame tomorrow

Took some videos today. Sound on Video 1 shows the section of the frame where it was "repaired". Video 2 shows the leaf spring mounts and shock mounts.

Yeah I imagine thats the inside rail looked like before the plate was put on there. I think I'm not going to tow anything until I can get the bed off and weld in some reinforcement or new plates.

Spent some more time underneath it yesterday with a hammer and wire wheel. Not finding any rotted out areas (except one of the cross member sections in the rear is pretty well roasted) but thre is definitely some softer spots ( doesn't have the nice healthy ping like other spots). If I can get the bed off and the tank out, everything should be be pretty easy to get too.
