Ive had this truck couple years and wanted to get on the road. A little rattle at startup. Oil pressure good. Took it down to start on chain and from the top guides appear to be good and unbroken from what i can see from the top.. Plastic both sides. Also A/T shifts only using the shifter manually. My intent is to replace the solenoids and flush n filter and see what happens. I have no history on the vehicle. 187K. Cranks easily and runs well.
Ideas on just running the present chain? I was going to adjust the valves to cold specs and reassemble.
Also anyone had this transmission issue and fixed it?
reach down and grab the drivers side timing guide. If it is in place and feels good with no slop, I would run it. If it is flopping around, definitely replace. I have seen the guide suck down, and pull the chain off the crank gear, breaking the timing cover and bending all 4 valves. I have seen it a couple times. But typically they fall apart, plug the oil pick up, while the chain digs a groove into the back side of the timing cover.
If you have personally put over 70k on it since owning, I would replace.
Always keep receipts in a folder. Piece of mind and helps keep track of dates and mileage for replacing major components. Especially critical ones like timing sets.
Thanks. Im putting this back together and cannot seem to find the ivory mate to this gray plug which originates at the rear exhaust manifold. Also for AT service Is my assumption that I need to pull the crossmember and remove the foward tranny pan for cleaning and inspection? Also any references on soloniod venders welcomed.
Ive looked all under the intake. Where does the male end originate?
