Hello, first time on here and I am in need if help. Back story, this is my first time installing an engine and everything that goes with it. I love my yota its pretty beat up but i love it. My engine I purchased from 22re performance almost a year and a half ago and i went away for a about a year because of my job. I fired it up a couple weeks ago and had bad gas (duh) so I changed that then finally it would idle. My cold start injector doesnt work so It takes a bit to start up. Once its idleing you can hear what sounds like detonation in the engine then once its warm Im sure its a combination of preignition and detonation. At first I thought it was the bad gas causing all this then it overheated while idling. I cannot rev my engine above 1800rpm it not only sounds terrible but it will cut out. I have set base timing multiple times retarded and advanced engine within its full range, veriefied I am top dead center and distributor rotor is pointing upper left to #1 plug. I changed spark plugs and verified the gaps .032. I have new injectors i had to solder 2 new injector plugs on because the stock plastic clips broke. I have removed the egr system it was clogged and corroded and there were to many vaccuum lines that i didnt want to deal with. My tps is dialed in. AFM DIALED IN. I am curious if my knock sensor could play a role in this? I looked at my ecu and its very clean inside no corrosion or broken wires. Very stumped. My egr wire is obviously unplugged be ause it is not there should jump the connector or something? Im just shooting from the hip. I feel as though this is a very basic timing issue but im not doing something right. Thanks for your time and consideration.
right.
Pre-ignition and detonation ? You are going to have to elaborate..
Over heats doesn't Rev.. Drop the exhaust at the manifold see if it makes a difference, if so your exhaust us plugged or caved in.
You had year old fuel, and ran the engine. I you will likely need to replace the fuel filter in the engine block and fuel pump sick. Check the fuel pressure and measure pump output by running the fuel return line into a large clear bottle then power on the pump via the diagnostics port if I recall its about a half liter a minute (search will turn up an answer)
