'86 SR5 Truck Speedo No Worky

Hi guys,
Im hoping for some advice on an electrical issue. Place to look for my problem.
Basically I had an aftermarket temp gauge wired up and some how the power and ground wires got damaged, touched each other, and blew my AM1 40amp fuse under the hood.
My speedo stopped working at the exact same time. So I am assuming the problems are related.
Any speedo wire pin outs, or wire colors I can look for so I know what wires to check for damage?
What are the chances I actually destroyed the gauge its self some how, and if so how can I test the gauge to see if its fried?

Thanks

The speedometer on your 1986 Truck is cable driven so you have a physical speedometer cable connecting from the transfer case to the back of the gauge cluster. There are no electrical parts driving the speedometer.

What damage occurred to cause the fuse the blow and where?

How was the aftermarket coolant temperature gauge wired up?

Did any other fuses blow?

Yeah as you can tell from my post count I don't post much because I can usually find the info I need my self. After a few days of searching I couldn't find any obvious solutions, and had mixed answers as to my speedo being a cable driven or electrical unit.
I also should have said that no other fuses were blown besides the AM1 fuse, and the fuse under the hood that powers all the stuff on the dash like the horn is still good.
I guess I need to check the cable. Trans side and speedo side.
Thanks
