Exclamation Finally found THE ONE (1987 SR5 4Runner) w/ pics

Hey y'all!
New here "sorta" and will be finally picking up a 1987 SR5 4Runner! I have been looking for a while now as I really wanted something clean and as unmolested as possible.

Small backstory: In 1984 my dad purchased one of the very first 4runners off the boat here in Southern California. He was so proud of that truck and took my brother and I camping in it frequently. It had all the fun stuff such as the dash mounted altimeter, elevation and tilt gauge.
Well, when my older brother got his drivers license back in 1990, he borrowed my dads beloved 4Runner and went camping with his friends. That night on a fire road he ended up swerving in order to miss a deer and ended up rolling the 4runner.

Fast forward to today and I finally found the perfect 4Runner to gift my dad. It's not an 84, but close enough
I'll be flying up to San Jose on Thursday and driving back to the South Bay solo.

The original owner has passed so I am purchasing via a family friend who is helping to sell it. From the information I have been given, the original owner was a mechanical engineer who did all the maintenance himself and kept it garaged and serviced regularly. I ran the VIN and no damage/theft reports came up.

The one repair that was done, was on the left rear quarter panel/fender. Apparently the OG owner never got around to finding the wheel well trim that got dented.
I was thinking about posting a WTB thread, so if you are reading this and have that chrome trim piece.. let me know! Also, it appears the rear is sagging a bit, can that be rectified with new leafs from these guys?

Has 200k on the clock, but these little engines run like a well oiled sewing machine. I hope this one is no different
On to the pics (sorry so small)

Nice rig.

Curious - what did they want for such a clean specimen?

I'm certainly not "stealing" it from the widow, but I'm also not paying the premium that these are going for on BAT . Albeit the mileage is a bit higher than most of those BAT examples.

Thank man! I'm very excited. Every time I look at the pics I have flashbacks of great memories with my dad and to me... that's priceless.

Are you sure you weren't just copying what I was saying?!? LOL

Except I also said, "wow, it still has the factory AM/FM cassette deck, look at that squeaky clean engine bay, and those door panels look like new!"

That is a great looking 4Runner! It has just about all of the options!

The rear stripes are backwards from what the factory had, but they look great.

Yes, just as long as both sides match (which they do), it looks factory.

Thanks, didn't even notice that! Maybe because it still looks good!
I ran a VIN check and no accidents or thefts etc.

Beautiful truck!
check the timing chain guides for wear and swap the thermostat with a new Aisin unit if you don't know the age of it. Cheap insurance against overheating and taking out the head gasket.

Very nice truck. Like new engine bay, like new interior and like new exterior what's not to like...... Congratulations on a nice find!

My father also bought a SR5 4Runner in 84, said he would never sell it. Well I went off to college and in 1985 he traded it in for 1985 Chevy Camaro Z28. I'm sure my sisters talked him into that....

Please keep us posted on how those^^^ work. I currently have a Zuk mod now, but may get new springs later.
