Hi guys,

I have a 3.0L 89' DLX 4X4 and decided to install a cold air intake.
This is what I got from eBay https://goo.gl/TsnrQc

The truck is idling normal (based on the sound), there is no RPM gauge.

However trying to pull out this morning, in 2nd gear when I hit the gas, the throttling is stopping suddenly but with low throttle like 15-20MPH I can drive fine..??

I plugged all the hoses for the and ensured all the clamps are tight and there is nothing that's not plugged.

Also just in case there is an ECU (I am not sure) I left the battery cable out and will plug back after work.

Wondering if anyone saw this before?

 

Just curious how you have the AFM plumbed into the new air intake ??

 

I used the one that was already in the housing and plugged the sensor socket back after installation.

It is hard to tell and not having a 3.0 to look at are you sure your throttle cable is hooked up correct ??

Giving you the complete range of movement as the pedal is depressed .

 

Okay here is what's happening.

When I unplug the Throttle Position Sensor's plug, everything is working fine. I can throttle fine.

When I plug it back in and throttle it's throttling every second, peak up - pause, peak up - pause, peak up - pause.

Does it think it's getting too much air and cutting the fuel or air? do I have to adjust something?
At this point installing back the stock air intake seems to be easier fix

 

I'd reinstall the stock airbox and forget about it. Your 'cold air intake is no such thing. It pulls hot air out of the engine compartment.

The stock setup at least pulls outside air from behind the headlight. Those CAI kits are junk. IMO.

 

millball I installed the stock air intake again and the problem continues. I believe I broke my Throttle Position Sensor. Because If I take it out and give throttle by hand and also adjust the unmounted TPS by hand, the engine is throttling fine. The pause go pause go behavior does not happen. I will order a new TPS and install that.

 

Are you saying your TPS is actually broken or will not adjust.
Did you test the TPS per FSM?
You need to adjust it attached to the throttle body.
I would atleast test it first before throwing money at it.
Return that cold air intake and use the money for a new TPS if needed.

 

Are you really talking about the TPS, or do you mean the VAFM??

What happens if I drive without this sensor ?? Truck seems to throttle without that but I did not attempt to drive.. )

Are all of your vacuum lines hooked up correctly? In the pictures you posted you have two hoses coming off the intake pipe, one going to the reed valve, but cant see where the other one is going to. When you re-installed your stock intake did you hook it all back up like before? One hose going to the reed valve, one to the EGR, and one going to the valve cover?
