Finally after a couple of weeks of waiting on the OEM springs from Conicelli Toyota (great prices on anything OEM) I got 'em installed and am very happy with 'em.
I've been driving on the 90,000 mile stock suspension and it was awful;the Bils feel great and I was afraid with all the comments about how harsh the ride is with Bilsteins that I wouldn't like it. I think with new Toyota springs coupled with the Bils gives a ride similar to my mom's Limited but with less body roll and no "nose dives" when coming to a stop.

I can't believe how many people think Bilsteins are harsh;they feel like a truck suspension,I consider "stiffness" as more control but then again I was already used to driving several sports cars with suspensions that make the 4Runner's seem almost Camry-like.

Hey what's up? I am looking into rear Bilsteins for my 96 and came across your post while searching. My main concern is body roll, which seems to be coming from the rear of mine. The bilsteins reduced this you say? That's cool, and even if they are "stiff" I don't mind.

My research shows the part # to be BE5-2451 for the rear. How much did the rears set you back if you don't mind me asking? Where did you get them?

I got 'em from www.shox.com and all 4 only ran me $282 shipped. They did greatly reduce body roll coupled with new OEM springs but they might still be a bit stiff for some people that are used to stock but it doesn't bother me. I've heard the addition of a rear sway bar improves the cornering with even less body roll and I may add one this summer.

 

If you have an Autozone in your area, they can get them as cheap as anyone else. I think I paid $250 for mine.

 

Cool thanks guys. I do have a rear sway bar, but I am trying to accomplish the best of both worlds: less body roll and the same articulation. Hopefully shocks can help me get there.

My 4Runner feels scary during spirited cornering.

 

That's how mine was too. I thought it was going to flip!

Anyways, the PP springs solved that problem for me. Bil's are on the to do list!

 

The Bilsteins are great shocks. That's the first mod I did five months after buying the rig brand new. They're still doing great after about 65K miles. I might be going OME rear and Steve's frankenstein front end by the end of the year.
