1993 V6 4runner with auto A340H trans will not shift past 2nd gear

UPDATE: I just discovered that the transfer case appears to be swapped and the new wire connections are crimped without shrinkwrap, would a corroded crimp cause my shifting issue?
UPDATE 2: Put in new shift solenoids and 6 more quarts of ATF without any changes, but when revved to 4000 rpm and hard shifted from 2nd into drive it did shift into 3rd two times but then it would not repeat this. WTF!!!
UPDATE 3: I redid the old electrical connections but nothing changed, when the the trans stays in L or 2 the trans does not slip, but when held in D it seems to have a safe mode neutral, it does feel like any power is being input or slipping

Hi everyone, the trans will shift from 1st into Reverse and 1st into 2nd but nothing higher.

The O/D OFF and CHECK ENGINE light are flashing 3-4 times a second when the 2 diagnostic points are jumped. What does this mean??

I pulled all 3 solenoids and tested them with a 12v and they seem to work, could a bad speed sensor be causing this?

The oil is pretty dark and has quite a bit of tiny metal flakes, and this trans has roughly 250k on her.

Are you able to shift thru gears manually?

I have not, I remember reading that to manually shift it I would shift from 2nd into Drive while gassing it, is this correct?

I had a synchro go bad on me in a 96 4Runner. In drive it wouldn't shift automatically but I was able to shift manually and all gears would pick up. I drove it like that for almost two years

Doesn't seem like you're following the book. Start with a manual shift test with the ECT computer disconnected.

I've got one of those transmissions. I never saw it function so no guarantee that it would fix your problem but I'd just about give it to you if you figure out what's wrong with yours and need donor parts. The TC is the only reason I still even have it. You can have any of the transmission you want. What part of the country are you in?
