Why is my cam gear off?

Why is my cam gear off?
I had severe hesitation and pinging and checked timing the other day. The timing was severely retarded and I could not advance it even close to spec. Today I looked at the cam gear (TDC on number 1) and chain and this is what I found. Whats the best next course of action?

I just removed the drive bolt/cam gear bolt and moved the chain over a notch and it seemed to line up properly. Put it all abck together and it started right up but timing was still way off. I jumper-ed the timing check and I hear the truck idle down and the timing retards even more. If I disconnect the TPS and check timing the timing advances to almost 0 degrees. I dunno. I will probably do a new timing kit on it and go from there that way I know that is all good. Hopefully no valve damage is done to it yet.

It moved about half a needle width when you rev it to 3k+. Worth the money and time to stick a manual gauge to it and be sure.
You'll have the pump off if you do the timing kit inspections, check it then if so. Cleaences will be in your shop manual.

Ya I will check into it. I ordered a timing kit from engnbldr so we will see how it goes.
