93 4Runner lift questions

i just bought a 93 4Runner SR5 4WD off Craigslist and if currently has a body lift on it, not sure how high it is as a total. However, it was 35's on it and they scrub when you turn the wheel hard. I don't have a lot of money to pour into this, but it seems from my research that ball joint spacers are my best option. Is the diff drop kit necessary to do this? What height spacer should I be doing to gain a little height safely?

You should first take a good look at your ball joints and body mounts to determine what lift, if any, it has. If you want to keep the 35 tires you will probably need a total of 4 inches (maybe even 5?) of lift. If you go over 1.5 inches on the ball joint spacers you should drop your diff. If you go over 1.5 inches body lift you will have some other brackets and such to change.

Best solution is probably to get some decent size tires. 35's are very large, unless you 'need' them or want them so badly. especially if this is going to be a daily driver.

I see the body lift. If I had to guess it's probably a 3" lift. I'll shake the 35's once I wear them down, but they're brand new currently.

Well, if you have a 3 inch body lift and you need more clearance, you can add a 1.5 inch ball joint spacer lift and that may fix your rubbing. Also, it's pretty cheap and easy to do.

But probably not as cheap, and certainly not as easy, as getting the correct tires. If the "came-with" tires are really new, 863Joe knows all about Craigslist.

If that is going to be your daily driver, then its too much tire. Rather than stress the front end more with spacers, you should go down to 33s and forget about lifting it further. The truck will actually apprar to have more ground clearance, because the wheel wells wont be stuffed.

There is a good chance they eill still scrub with the spacers, perhaps just extend the steering stops a bit, widen your turning radious.
