won't suck gas

i has probably been gone over lots of times i just haven't found it. i dropped the tank in my 86 hilux to fix the sending unit and it worked until i put it back in then it quit again, damn. any way i put in 5 gallons of gas in a bone dry tank and the new fuel pump wouldn't suck it up from the tank. if i put the inlet hose from the pump into a 2 gallon gas can it fires right up and sucks that gas down like a wino at a brewery. o blew air through the lines and they sound clear and i changed the filter just for giggles. i did notice one of the screws on the top of the tank was broke off, would that make it suck air instead of gas? i suppose i have to drop the tank again as soon as i drain the five gallons of gas out again.

You are talking about a electric fuel pump

When pulling gas out of the 2 gallon can your using the same electrical connection ??

Is the pump turning on ??

Just how are you trying to test this ??

The pump will only turn on when the engine is cranking or running so the switch in the AFM closes

Meaning the air intake system needs to be in place

If the fuel pump still has the stock wiring

what brought about a new fuel pump ??

Try priming the lines with some gas?
