transmission dipstick - accurate reading 3rd gen 4runner
I've been able to easily read the transmission dipstick on other cars I've had, but I just can't seem to get an accurate, consistent reading on my '98 4runner, 3.4L
I let the car run for about ten minutes, then cycle slowly from Park to L then back to Park. I leave the car running then check the dipstick.
I can't for the life of me get a consistent reading on the dipstick. With all the twisting, turning and splashing, there is never a clear spot where the fluid is clearly from the pan and not from the dipstick tube. If I do think I see a clear spot, I'll reinsert it and get a completely different reading. Anywhere from below cold to above hot.
I am losing my mind here. Does anyone have any tips for checking the level? I have never dealt with such a PITA dipstick tube!
