The reason I asked that is because, when I first started on my old project truck that I bought for $300 because I was told the engine was shot, it had the same kind of issue. After a little work it would crank right up and idle just fine but maybe a little slow. It sounded good and responded well out of gear, but when you went to drive it, it felt like it had maybe 50hp and would not pull a hill whatsoever. After doing a bunch of difficult tests, I tried a simple one. I cranked it up and started pulling my plug wires off one at a time. This one was a 3.0L by the way. I noticed no drop in RPM when I pulled off three of the plugs which let me know I had three dead cylinders. I bought me some aftermarket injectors which were $150 for a whole set and installed them. She's been running great ever since. I'm not saying you have bad injectors but with that many miles, it's sure possible. All I'm saying is that you can't always feel a miss in these engines like you can in a big diesel like I was used to working on.
One more thing, if you're not into troubleshooting engines. Go ahead and change your fuel filter and rule that out. It's a maintenance item anyway and it's cheap and easy to replace. That's always my first step in troubleshooting low power issues. You might also look at your air filter as well and change it if necessary.
Best of luck.

I've always loved these engines but the fact that mine could drive across country and back (very slowly) on three cylinders makes me love them even more. You'll get it figured out. Let me know if I can help.

Your injectors will test fine but they are bad. They fail once they get hot. There was a string of guys on here, probably a dozen or more myself included, that had injectors fail this Summer.

If you go ahead and change out those injectors, you absolutely need to change them all. With that many miles and the time you are going to spend getting down to them, it will be well worth it. Who's to say #4 won't fail the day after you get it all back together. Buy a set.
