92 w/22re auto idles fine, struggles in gear.

I finished rebuilding the motor and installed it this weekend. After a couple minor installation issues got it running and did the cam breakin.
When I put it in reverse to back out of the garage it died. After a little idle screw tweaking it stayed running but was on the verge of dying.
We managed to get it on the road, no problems and only a couple times did it die at the light.

Idles fine out of gear.
Has a little hiccup in the pick up at the beginning of the rev.
It seems to bog down when driving at lower rpms but that may just be a kick down cable adjustment.
Engine light is on.
Trans seems to shift fine.

I bought the truck a couple months ago knowing it had at least a spun bearing so I was not able to drive it so I have no idea the condition of anything except the engine I rebuilt.

Can anyone help narrow down the list of things it could be for me?

Thanks

Checked the code it was showing and it came up 31, AFM as the leading cause.
I used 4Crawlers instructions on how to check with a multimeter and was unable to get a resistance reading from any of the circuits except E2-Tha. THat reading was just over 1,000 which falls into the range for the temp 104F which is about how hot it was yesterday...

The afm practcaly runs the engine. If it is not right you will have problems. Also your tps mist be setp up properly for a good idle.

Faulty AFM. Swapped one from my FIL's 94, every symptom fixed.
Fortunately one can find a Reman for considerably less than $1000...

Check to make sure your alternator is putting out the right amount of amps before you dig to deep. Had this issue once. Amps fell below 10 and won't hardly go. New alternator fixed it.
