It all started when my 22re started shutting off while driving or in idle.
I thought it was the pump in the tank so I decided to change it. I also changed the filter in the engine comp?i changed the cap and rotor. Of course it would start right after, then it would shut off. At times it would sometimes idle for 30 min, then shuts off. Or it would run 10 miles then cut off . I then decided to check the fuses under the hood where I found the Efi 15 amp had gone out. Since then I've changed numerous fuses it would run for 5 sec then brake or it would run for 30 min then break. I would have it running for an hour shut it down, come the following day it wouldn't start. Can someone shed some light on a blind man who can't see thanks.

 

Some where in the circuits the EFI fuse powers you have either a broken wire loose connection physical damage to the wires .

This either causes a short or the wires to arc in both cases drawing to much current causing the fuse to open .

Since the EFI fuse in most years protects the EFI relay , Circuit opening relay , the afm, fuel pump , O2 sensor.

This is from memory I might have something wrong

 

A common cause for this is the o2 sensor wiring rubbing on the exhaust pipe.

 

yes and yes. O2 sensor wiring is physically exposed with minimal protection, so I would check that first.

My Toy was in the shop when I received your reply. It was in the shop for 2 weeks, getting it back today, the mechanic couldn't fine what was popping the 15 amp fuse. They said they couldn't figure it out. I took a look at both 02 sensor, it wasn't near the exhaust an looked fine. I'm not sure where to start, can you point me in some direction thanks.

 

My toy was in the shop for 2weeks, just got it back today. Mechanics couldn't find what was causing the fuse to break. I checked the wiring on the 02 sensor. It's not damage or was it on the pipe.

I am guessing you have no idea just what might have been checked if anything.

Either The EFI or Circuit opening relay could be the problem .

might be the fuel pump or the fuel pump circuit

O2 sensor internal short.

One must Check each circuit the EFI fuse protects .

Find a Copy of the Electrical Wiring Diagrams for your vehicle makes these jobs much easier

Sorry about the repost, somewhat exited to get my toy back.

 

Just an observation: Your techs had the truck for TWO WEEKS and could not diagnose? Wow. I would think they should have at least recommended an electrical specialist shop if they could not take the time to test the circuits. If you are in SoCal you might consider Yotamasters in Corona. They are 22RE problem solvers.

 

Some shops really don`t want to be bothered with electrical work.

It is a double edged sword we need to get paid you as the consumer would you want to spend 1 hour 2 hours 3 hours or more of labor

Finding a electrical problem if it is not found within the first 1/2 hour tends to be really long and drawn out.$$$$$

Then if you don`t have access to Toyota`s Electrical wiring Diagrams your just wandering around in the dark

 

You need to replace the fuse with a headlight or some other 12vdc bulb. Then shake the piss out of the truck and all the wiring including the RH side where the cable runs down the ECU. If the bulb lights you have your problem area. Its most definitely a rubbing wire and its shorting to ground, and that's what pops the fuse. And thats why the shop cannot fix it, too much trouble. I hope they didn't rip you off.
