LSPV boot - can I leave off?
1993 4runner - 22re, 5sp, aka "Lucky"
Howdy all. I've been scouring the forum looking at various chatter regarding LSPV's and all the banter that can be had about them. I have a leak at mine, and I needed some options. I opted to order an OE replacement from the Toyotapartsdeal.com (~$130 from TPD vs. $205 from the dealer.) I don't want to do a delete, and my loads vary too much to fuss with a manual PV.
So, the valve will come in a few days (along with new seat belts! Woot!), but in the mean time, I've still got a leak. A 20 minute stop'n'go drive to work and being parked for 9 hours left me a puddle about 12" diameter. I'm cutting down on the driving it gets, and monitoring the fluid level as needed, but to fully examine what I will have to tackle when the new valve comes in, I crawled under the truck and started the exploring the LSPV and various fittings. While exploring, I tore the boot covering the valve plunger (piston?) This confirmed that the LSPV itself is leaking (rusty crusty all around the plunger and it's it pretty well seized in there) and not the lines in/out (they were dry as a bone.)
I slapped it all back together for the time being, however I'm concerned about not having a boot on there once I get the new valve. I'm guessing it's there to keep grit/grime out and to catch any slow drips. I'm assuming the new valve won't leak, but should I be putting a new boot on at the same time? I didn't anticipate needing a new one when I ordered the valve, otherwise I would've done it - they're also a dealer-only-type part (perhaps Toyotapartsdeal has them, I'll have to check tonight...)
Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Girt and Hydraulic valves don`t play well together .
While you might get years of problem free use I would trash the valve in two weeks
Then I never had a LSPV that worked so what do I know!!!

I would worry about not having the boot on there. You might be able to repair yours with some thorough cleaning and some rubber cement. Otherwise I'd say try to find a replacement boot. Maybe you can get one that's more pliable out of the junkyard.
If you don't mind me asking, what's the part number for the LSPV? I was unable to locate it on ToyotaPartsDeal.

Oh. You might be right. I was just going by pictures online when I searched the part number. Hopefully OP will let us know exactly what he gets when his parts arrive.

So, parts came in today. First off, I have got say that I am SO FREAKING EXCITED to have brand new TOYOTA seatbelts in my truck! I ordered new ones along with the new LSPV.) They retract very quickly, and I suspect it's going to be YEARS before I end up slamming the belt in the door again. YASSSSSSS!
So, the LSPV. It's an AISIN bit, ordered from toyotopartsdeal.com
part# 47910-35210 (on the invoice, it also states "Replaced by: 47910-35440)
I chose this part based on what TPD brought up using my VIN.
Initial inspection showed it being the thing I needed. I haven't yet ordered a new boot, but I plan to. I am wanting to get new drums/shoes, so I'm thinking I'll have a second rear brake day when I'm not so rushed.
I pulled the old LSPV, poured brake fluid everywhere, and installed this new one. Went in like a charm: great fit, good finish. I bled the rears and the LSPV, and took it for a quick spin. I have the FSM opened to the whole brake section and the corresponding bleeding/testing/measuring spots for the LSPV and BPV, however at this moment, I'm gonna call it a good. My braking wasn't significantly altered by the leak, I just didn't want to be losing/refilling brake fluid. Sometime in the near future, I'll do some more involved testing to ensure the LSPV is working as designed (ie: with the rear heavily loaded vs. unloaded). I feel a lot better not having a leak, that's the big thing, considering this truck goes up into the mountains quite a bit.
Anyhoo, here's my old LSPV. Closer inspection shows the same teal paint. Perhaps a similar replacement?
I need to get the boot ordered. I don't want this happening again!
Woot! Seatbelts and non-leaking brakes!

I am really surprised it did not come with the boot!!! I had to replace mine a few years back and got mine through our local Toyota dealership after an online price match and it came with the boot. Guess I just got lucky or Toyota changed what was included with the LSPV.
