1987 Pickup with Dual timing chain
So I have an 87 pickup with a dual timing chain, but my head is cracked. I need a new one, but all the ones I've been able to find for my engine are single timing chain heads. Can someone help me out?

is it worth it to have a dual timing chain?
I'm redoing mine right now (single) and I've thought about the mod.
it just seems like it would be an extra thing that could fail..
they might or might not have re-engineered the engine for a reason?

Is there enough room in the stock timing chain cover for dual chains? Do you have any pics? This sounds interesting. If you wanted to go back to single chain could you replace the lower sprocket?

Quite possible at some time the a pre 84 engine was installed and through the owners that fact was lost.
Now if this engine put out 300 hp plus I could see the advantage to a dual row chain but stock.
But this is just me.

Either you have an older 22R that someone put in there, or an aftermarket timing chain conversion kit. I think there are a few companies that sold dual row conversions for the newer 22Rs. If it is a conversion, then you should just be able to put a new head on it and re-use the old conversion parts. If it is the older 22R, you need an older 22R head, or a 20R head can be used for more horsepower.
