What speeds do you guys run?

I took my daughter to Denver today for her birthday. It's fifty miles each way of driving on Interstate 25, (I-25). I caught myself cruising at 80 MPH most of the way there and back and it wasn't a struggle at all for my 93 4Runner's V6. How about you guys? What speeds do you run your Runners at on the interstate? I'm just curious whether I'm pushing my Runner too hard or not.

Thanks,
Whitey

Well, I just bought my 95, and I'm used to traveling on the higher ends of the speed limit, but I've only been pushing it to 70 maybe 75 depending on where I'm at. I'm afraid I break something if I push it too hard

Um, now that I've done the mods to my truck that I have, I find it hard to keep the truck below 70. I have to barely rest my foot on the go-fast pedal when in fifth gear in order to not break the law. Or, as my GF says "Put it in cruise control! You're gonna get a ticket!" 4th gear helps in that regard too. I really don't NEED 5th gear around the city on the freeways.

On the open highway at cruise, I usually run at 70-75.

That's my .02

I was doing a little crazy driving last night on the 405 in my 95 4runner. My speedometer says i was going 90, so if i do my math correctly since my speedometer is off (see here), thats 105

When I drive to school on the highway every day, I find myself going 70-75. The RPMs are usually around 2900. Runs very well then. Love to go that speed. :fireman:

yea, i say when i'm cruising at highway speeds, it's around 75 to 80...i think anything too much over that is just like pouring gas out the window...i'm heading up to chicago this weekend and my cuz's house is about 320 miles from my door...usually i have to fill up just outside of chicago...maybe if i cut the speed down to 70 all the way i can make it on one tank??? i'll let you know the outcome next week!!!

I've been driving 75-80 lately. I know that the governor is around 106mph. But I had to be going downhill to do it.

The fastest I've ever gotten my truck up to is 90mph, and at that point it was kind of shaking so I decided to go easy on her Although that was before I had a lot of work done ($2000 worth of neccesary, little repairs  ) and my new exhaust system so I don't know how it'll handle now.

When I drive down the freeway I'm usually cruising around 70-75mph and my truck really likes it

70-75 on the highway in 5th gear, about 30 miles of highway driving each day.

Usually 80 to 85 on the I5 from LA to SF and back. I've never taken it past 90. Close, but not quite.

fast for a truck

So, the fastest I have ever had my tacoma was 147mph on I-80

( I removed the governor ) and just wanted to see how fast I could go-- although, between 105 and 115 the truck really shook bad, but over that speed, the thing flew-- just watch it on the corners. I had the truck in 5th gear and the engine was redlining--so that is about as fast as it will go with current gearing. I have not taken it that fast again. but it was fun!

I run between 80-85 on the interstate. It depends on traffic though and how fast everyone else is going. On a certain long bridge I get up to around 95.

Duffdog....how did you get a Tacoma up to 147?? Are you serious? Even if I could get my rig to go that fast, there is no way I would even attempt it!

On the interstate, I try to keep it under 80. I have driven at 85-90 on one trip and the mileage sucked, so i won't do that often. However, it rode and handled just as smooth as 65.

we don't have an interstate, but the most i've been actually going is probably around 70-80 in a 55 mile zone......usually can't go over 15 miles without a cop stopping you and giving you a ticket, unless he can't catch you

hmm i just wrote a whole message but hit back, and now its gone. i've had my truck up to almost 110. shifted into 5th at about 100. my owner's manual says to shift into 5th at 103 during heavy acceleration like that. im not on the highway a lot, but when i am i try not to go too fast. if i get a ticket before 18, i lose my licence... anyways..

duffdog can go so fast because he really souped up his 2wd taco. i think he's pushing 300HP, but ask him about that.
