Need to identify this 5-speed transmission from a 1980 20R pickup
From what I've researched regarding my 1980 Toyota pickup, the only 5-speed that was offered with it was the L52 so that's what I ordered for my rebuild kit. I wasn't really able to lift the pickup and pull out the transmission until I had everything I need together for the overhaul; and I'm pretty damn certain that this isn't an L52.
Here's the facts:
This is a 5-speed transmission pulled from a 1980 2WD Toyota pickup. The engine is a 20r.
I don't know if another transmission was swapped in or out of this pickup in its lifetime. I only purchased the pickup less than a year ago.
From everything I researched, a 50L transmission simply wasn't an option for 1980 pickups, but like I said, this is what I read. I don't know for certain if this is the case. If it is, I'm going to have to hunt down proper-sized gaskets for the rebuild -- from how it currently looks, everything else in the kit appears compatible.
Nevermind, it appears to be a W50 transmission. Now to find out what parts of that L52 rebuild kit I can use and where I can order W50 gaskets.
how did you figure what tranny you had? I also have a 80 Toyota pickup 2wd with a 20r 5 speed and I’m wanting to rebuild tranny and put new clutch but can’t figure what tranny is?
