Hey guys, im new to this site and I'm about to be a first time toyota owner. I'm so stoked. Anyway, the dude took out the door panels and the steering column cover. I've found the covers on Ebay but I can't find any door panels. I moved from Oregon to Pennsylvania and nobody has toyotas here so the junkyard wont work, any ideas? It's a 1996 22r. Also, the guy said he replaced the timing chain and it has a new weber carb which is great, but there is a knocking noise at the top of the motor, he thinks its a valve, will I be able to install a new head by myself with limited tools, i have the money for a new one. I wont ask for details til I'm ready, have a hanes book, etc... Thanks you!

 

I pulled mine out of the 91, they were beat to crap, bad speaker holes and the like, but they're good to trace new ones on some home depot stock, a layer of foam, and some kind of vinyl of my choice, all held together with spray adhesive, could just trace something out on paper and transfer it over, make sure to have a side access hole for each plastic mount about an inch from the door metal holes. The column covers get brittle, so watch what you buy, I have one mount hole to rebuild with JB Weld, so many versions it's hard to find the right one without a P/N

You'll understand when you see it, went and bought the panels at Home Depot this morning $6 total for two 2x4 pieces 1/8 inch thick to be cut out with a jigsaw

 

In the picture of my 91 you can see the mounting holes with red marks next to them, big hole to insert, small hole to hold the clips in place, clips available at NAPA and such by the bag full fairly cheap. On the left is the two panels I bought this morning at Home Depot. Pretty certain 91 and 86 use the same panel, I've had both. Column shroud must be correct one for your truck, versions include A/T or M/T, tilt wheel, cruise control etc.. Toyota dealer can give you real part numbers, Haynes doesn't have them, but the real FSM does for a hefty price for the book.
My plan is getting some 1/8 inch or so packing foam attached with spray adhesive, then some kind of vinyl over it also attached with spray adhesive.
This is how I've seen it done down in Tijuana when I lived in San Diego.

Handles and such are another story, but available at Partstrain.com or autopartswarehouse.com .. Don't know if they carry armrests.
If you look at my album pics you'll see the doors appear identical.

So, to help out a Toyota guy, a new one if we get together PM (private message) and exchange addresses, for $20 I'll make paper templates for you and ship them rolled in a tube, money to cover postage and my time.

But he has no panels at all and the 86 didn't come with the top metal panel
One of my doors had been replaced and not very well, lots of goobering in this project of mine, so I tore that part off so they match and got some older clips to secure the window rubber.. So I have the 2 inch or so base metal top border instead of the dress panel. I'm also looking for the really nice armrests. Same exact panels as yours but only $6 at our Home Depot (we're poor in Idaho) so cost of living adjustment

 

This is a fairly big job and you want to be sure you really need to do it.
Also, at least for this old man, I'd get some help even for a 4 cylinder the head is pretty heavy and you wouldn't want to have an accident and damage surfaces for want of an assistant, that would truly ruin your day..
