1999 4Runner no power to tailgate.

Hi, im new to the forums and have been reading/searching a lot around the web. I have a 1999 5Spd SR5 6cly and have a few quirks, most recently i'm trying to fix my tailgate power. Absolutely nothing gets power in the tailgate, no window, no wiper, no dome light or dash open door warning. Since i already have a replacement tailgate my key doesn't work so I can't test that either. I finally got a new hatch lock because my last one was destroyed and was hoping that all the electronics would work once the tailgate would fully close. Now i'm not even sure the tailgate is connected properly as i see a few connectors with nowhere to go. The only connection I have plugged in is a large grey one that comes from the body to the tailgate. I have found another white plug coming from the tailgate harness which is alongside the grey one but has nowhere to go. And two smaller white plug coming from the body harness. I've followed the wires a bit and repaired any broken wires that I found. Does anyone know what these other connections are supposed to go to? I've looked at diagrams but can't really figure out what i'm missing. Also is there anyway to test the grey connection coming from the body of the 4runner for power so I know it's not that end? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
