safe to do a tranny drain on an old transmission?

safe to do a tranny drain on an old transmission?
fluid looks old. is it safe to do just a drain and refill instead of a pressure fluid change?

If you believe it has never been done then go ahead and do the fluid exchange. The drain and refill only gets some of the fluid out, not all of it.

If it looks old, a simple drain and fill will be better.
That way the tranny can break in with cleaner fluid slowly.
