Double-Check My Order (Wheels & Tires)

I just went down to the local 4Wheel Parts store, I know, and ordered up some new wheels and tires.

I wasn't too confident in them but went ahead placed the order. They kept trying to push Procomp tires on me since they didn't have the BFG MTs in. I kept saying, "No", but they kept trying. I don't have anything against Procomp but I just wanted what I wanted.

Anyway here's the order:

Rock Crawlers 16x8 6 on 5.5 4.25 Back Spacing

BFG MTs LT285/75R16

I knew I wanted to get 16" wheels but I'm not sure about the backspacing and told them I was looking for a wheel size close to stock. My stocks are 16x7 so will a 16x8 be okay? How about the back spacing? I don't want them sticking out too much. I don't know much about back spacing and what's appropriate. I always hear people throwing different numbers around and most seem to get the 15" wheels.

Thanks for any input.

Daryx, you got the right ones, no worries. I've got the exact same setup on my 4runner, should be fine on your tacoma. The advantage of sticking with the 15 inch rims is that the tires are typically cheaper. I think the brake calipers on a vehicle equiped with 16 inch rims from the factory are larger than those on a vehicle with 15's, but this is only an issue for someone wanting to put smaller rims on.

Thanks for the info Mad Chemist. I knew the price would be more for the tires ona 16" wheel than a 15" but I didn't want to have to worry about the calipers and such. I was most "iffy" about the back spacing on my order but I just did some more looking around and see that people are in the 3.75 to 4.25 range so I feel better.

Oh, I got the Rock Crawler "Street Locks" for some added "bling". I hope they don't suck as I've heard some mixed reviews. If they aren't going to do it for me then I guess I'll order up dome regular Rock Crawlers and sell these ones. Or if 4wheelparts will take them back I'll just exchange them.

Since 4wheelparts loves chrome they don't sell black lugs. I ordered some black lugs and lock lugs from wheeler's offroad after remembering that site mentioned on the boards. Gotta love search!

I think they also want to put chrom valve stems on the tires too. I now see them listed on the receipt. Guess I'll have to battle them over just putting on boring old black ones.

I'd never done anything like it before so it took a better part of five hours I think.

Looks awesome man, part of me wishes I had gone with the street locks but I like the look of the plain steelies on my black rig.

I've always loved the black rims on white rigs...looks BLINGIN!!
