Xtra cab plastics. way to reinforce? they're brittle!

I found a pretty decent set of xtra cap plastics at the junkyard. But just like any other they are very britle and crack if you look at them too hard. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could maybe reinforce them. Maybe rhino line the backside or something. I've been thinking there might be something I can do with fiberglass too but I don't know anything about it.

we sell replacements , way stronger then the flimsy originals . should last forever !

as far as reinforcing the originals .. good luck ! what ever you do , it will make the original thicker , and you may have fitment issues , IDK ? and I think the original plastic will still deteriorate

Thanks for the heads up, I've been looking at yours for awhile. But I found these for $10. Also I didn't see the back either on your website.

Make a mold of the original plastic pieces. Then put coat hanger wire in there like rebar and pour in some kinda crap? I'm onto something here

Old plastic that's dry and brittle can't be saved. Over time the uv light does its thing and you're pooched. I got some from a parts truck like you did and had the same thing happen to me so I bought some of Slackers. Quality product as usual.

If you wanted to paint them to make them look all fancy, plastic is tricky to work with. Most paints won't stick to it unless its prepped using special products.

As far as painting interior pieces, I use Adhesion Promoter from your local parts store and you have to use interior paint. It has something in it that basically makes the paint more flexible. It works well on vinyl and plastic. Getting the pieces clean is the key thing to it.

All of the interior painted trucks I had seen in the past looked bad. It was done with normal paint and that is a no no. Stacey David used interior paint on Ted Nugents Bronco and that is how I come about to using it. As far as bringing old plastic back to life, really not much you can do about it.

I would if I had one ... but I really don't want to spend any cash , as I know it wont be a big seller , I doubt I will get my money back for the cost of the mould .. most people just "ryno line" the back wall , or carpet it .
